Bundled mods
Fixed by Design designs four mods. The pack ships eighty-nine.
Most of the rest are performance, rendering and audio, and you will never think about them. This page is about the other kind: mods by other people that add or change something you can feel while playing. Several of them solve a problem that was on the Fixed by Design roadmap, and solve it well enough that building a version of it would have been a worse use of time than shipping theirs.
Everything below was read out of the jars and the pack's own config files, so what you see described is what the pack actually runs, not what the mod is capable of.
Combat
Old Combat Mod by The_Hangel removes the 1.9 attack cooldown. It sets the player's attack speed attribute to a value high enough that the cooldown never applies, and it stops knockback from cancelling your sprint. It runs off a gamerule, old_combat, which is on by default and can be switched off per world.
Cut Through by Fuzs makes your attacks ignore blocks you cannot collide with. Swing at a mob standing in tall grass and you hit the mob instead of clearing the grass. The pack also has its target_alive_only option on, so an entity playing its death animation no longer soaks up hits meant for the one behind it.
Horses
Horseman by mortuusars is the reason mounted travel is worth doing in this pack, and it is doing far more than the pack's own mods do for horses. What is enabled:
| Step height | +0.1, and faster stepping down, so ledges and stairs stop killing your momentum |
| Airborne speed | Raised halfway toward ground speed, so running off a block no longer stalls you |
| Hitching | Right-click a fence while mounted to leash the horse to it; a lead slot is added to the horse's inventory |
| Summoning | A Copper Horn bound to a horse calls it from up to 32 blocks on foot, further by teleport, across dimensions |
| Free camera | Look around freely while stationary until you pass 100 degrees |
| Mining | Full block-breaking speed while mounted |
| Leaves | The lowest leaf block of a tree has no collision while riding, so forests are passable |
| Boats | Horses, donkeys, mules and llamas fit in boats |
| Chests | Shear a chested donkey, mule or llama to take the chest back with its contents |
| Powder snow | Leather horse armor works the way leather boots do |
| Wandering | A saddled horse stays within 16 blocks of where you left it |
| Interface | Hunger, experience and level render while mounted; the jump bar only appears when you jump; the horse's head drops out of your view; the mount fades out when you look down through it |
Looking at a horse while holding food it likes shows its speed, jump and health.
Travelling
NetherPortalFix by BlayTheNinth makes portals remember where you came from. Each player carries a list of portal links, so going back through the portal you arrived at returns you to the exact portal you left, rather than to whatever portal the game decides is nearest. This is the difference between a nether hub that works and one that quietly reroutes you.
Things you can craft
Additional Additions by Dqu1J adds 88 items and 17 blocks, all built to look like they could have shipped with the game. The ones that change how you play:
- Rope, a climbable block, and the Rope Arrow, which you shoot at a ceiling to drop a rope down from it
- Wrench, which rotates a placed block in-place through its facing or axis instead of making you break and re-place it
- Watering Can, which holds water and slowly fertilises crops, refilled from any water source
- Glow Stick, a placeable light source at level 12
- Trident Shard, which makes tridents craftable from prismarine
- Pocket Jukebox and 16 coloured Albums, so you can carry music
- Rose Gold, a full set of tools and armor plus a spear and horse armor
- Suspicious Dyes, which recolour an item's enchantment glint
- Foods, flowers and plants, including Honeyed Apple, Sweet Berry Pie, Fried Egg and eight new plant families
Armor Stand Arms by Jodek is a datapack. Armor stands get arms when placed, and sneak-right-clicking one toggles them.
Visual Workbench by Fuzs keeps what you put in a crafting table inside it, renders it on the table, and shows the result floating above. Contents turn to face whoever is closest. Old crafting tables convert the first time you use them.
Inventories
None of this changes what you can do, only how long it takes.
- Better Recipe Book (Extended), maintained by Avalonia_0 from marshmallow's original, adds pinning, scrolling, creative-style tabs and instant crafting to the recipe book
- Crafting Tweaks by BlayTheNinth adds rotate, balance and clear to any crafting grid; right-clicking the result slot crafts a full stack
- Mouse Tweaks by YaLTeR turns dragging and scrolling into inventory actions. All three tweaks are on
- Lightweight Inventory Sorting by BorknBeans sorts a container, including horse inventories and shulker boxes
- InvMove by PieKing1215 lets you walk with a screen open. This includes the Catalogue and the Map Book
- Shulker Box Tooltip by MisterPeModder shows a shulker box's contents in its tooltip
What the game tells you
Fixed by Design adds systems that are hard to guess at, so the pack leans on information mods rather than making you read a wiki mid-game.
Jade by Snownee shows what you are looking at. It runs in toggle mode, not always-on, so it stays out of the way until you ask. Enabled: harvest tool, crop growth, breaking progress, container previews, enchanting power, horse stats, mob breeding and growth, armor stands, mob effects and what a mob drops next. Barriers, text displays, interaction entities, firework rockets, lightning and effect clouds are hidden from it, so builds and map-making stay clean.
AppleSkin by squeek502 shows saturation, exhaustion, and what a food will restore before you eat it. All overlays are on.
Enchantment Descriptions by Darkhax says what an enchantment does, on every enchanted item, with no key held.
Effect Insights by Fuzs does the same for status effects, in tooltips, the effect list and the beacon menu, including the attributes they change.
Pick Up Notifier by Fuzs logs what you collect in the corner, experience included.
DeathLogPlus by NightMirror records each death with its cause, coordinates, time and a snapshot of what you were carrying. With partial keep inventory, knowing exactly what was in the lost half matters.
Playing together
Simple Voice Chat by Max Henkel is proximity voice. The pack ships it configured to 48 blocks, whispering to 24, with groups enabled. Nobody is required to install it to play.
Emotecraft by KosmX and dima_dencep plays emotes. The pack ships twelve and turns the built-in set off: backflip, clap, crying, here, hug, lean, look around, palm, point, sit, sitting and waving.
Bugs
Debugify by isXander fixes Minecraft bugs that Mojang has not. This build carries 99 of them and the pack runs its defaults, which is all of them except two that are off deliberately. A sample of what that covers:
- Respawning no longer resets your hotbar slot
- Right-clicking no longer silently resets your attack cooldown
- Mending no longer interrupts block breaking
- Items dropped by mobs killed by lightning no longer vanish instantly
- Group AI no longer breaks when a mob's target dies
- Cured baby zombie villagers stop riding chickens
- Wild wolves no longer show breeding hearts they cannot act on
- The Ender Dragon stops circling above its perch instead of landing
Four fixes sit in a Gameplay category that the mod itself flags as potentially unfair. They are minor: riptide interacting with depth strider, the sneak animation, dropping an item while using it, and 2x2 sapling growth.
Not on this page
Performance, rendering, audio and interface polish are the larger half of the pack and change nothing about how the game plays. They are listed on the modpack page, along with the resource packs and shaders.
